This notice has the potential to affect all customers due to its scope.  Please be advised that we do not expect a service interruption, but we are prepared for the case that one may occur.

If possible, we would encourage you to temporarily transfer any critical workload to another site, if available, to reduce the chance it will be interrupted.  If it is feasible to temporarily suspend system activities, this may help reduce risks to your data in the event power is interrupted.

Date: Today, Friday, August 13th

Time: 5:02 PM US Central Time (UTC -5)

Scope: Power Systems in Suites 240-E (chi01) and 260 (the Meet-Me-Room)

Affected Equipment: Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS)

Summary of Work: The ATS will be forced back to utility power and repaired.

Customer Impact: Unlikely but possible brief power interruptions may occur in affected suites.

We received notice this afternoon that Suites 240 East and 260 at 350 East Cermak Rd. have been operating on generator power due to a failure.  We have been assured that all equipment besides the Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) has been tested and is operating normally.  The Automatic Transfer Switch is the device which will automatically switch our facilities to generator power in the event that utility power is lost.  Since all other equipment is operating correctly, while the ATS cannot current switch back to utility power automatically, when it is switched back manually, it should function like a normal return from generator power in which the power load is placed on the UPS system for 1 second.  If the transfer fails, the UPS system will retain the power load until the transfer is reverted.

In the event of a power outage, servers and network equipment with the identifier "chi01" would lose power completely and reboot.  No other customers (chi02) would suffer loss of equipment power, however a loss of power in Suite 240 would cause a brief network outage, resulting in all Chicago equipment becoming unreachable.

If you have any questions or need advice regarding this emergency power maintenance, please open a support ticket and we will do our best to assist you.  We are standing by in case this maintenance causes issues so we can deal with resulting problems and restore service promptly.  We apologize for the short notice on this advisory.
